Supervised learning is the classic ML paradigm where the model is shown pairs of input and correct output and learns to map between them. Spam classification, image recognition, and traditional regression are the textbook examples. It dominated Machine Learning for decades and was the entry point for the early Deep Learning revolution. Because labeled data is expensive, the field has increasingly leaned on Self-Supervised Learning and Reinforcement Learning over the last few years.
